How We Got Hooked on Creating a Container Loading Calculator Software

Typical unsolicited comments from users

We purchased your CargoWiz about 13 years ago, and we love it. We just recommended it to one of our customers in New Zealand.

CargoWiz is a great program and I can’t be without it!

Love the program!. Now I’m back to add more users to my license

First off, let me just say I love the software.

What’s Our Story?

Our founder overheard a customer service rep being asked:
“What length of truck bed will our order take up in the truck we are sending?”
The customer service rep quickly replied, “I’ll have to get back to you on that.”That is how we got in the business.

Our Founder

Unable to find a reasonable, easy to learn, software online, he could not resist tackling the puzzle himself.

Our founder, Brian Rayle, has a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University and had written numerous computer programs for various companies and industry groups. Soon he developed a colorful program that would display the cargo loaded very efficiently in a realistic top view. It not only reported the inches or centimeters needed, but also volume taken, total weight and so on.

This was over 15 years ago. He put up a simple web site and offered it for sale. Quickly an order arrived from a company in Canada.

Surprised, he called the woman who ordered it and asked just how she used it. She said:

“It’s wonderful..."

“…just what I needed. I get asked every day by freight companies how much length will be needed for my shipment. I sketch and calculate with the cargo dimensions. It takes a lot of time and I am never really sure.”
Thus encouraged, he developed CargoWiz further.

  • Eventually he was working in 3 dimensions and named the software “CargoWiz ™”.
  • When asked why it quickly overtook competitors, he cites:
“As a golden rule I put my mind to see the screen as if I was a first time user. I maximized it to be intuitive without need from the Help file.”
